R&B singer Chris Brown, 36, remanded in CUSTODY after being charged with grievous bodily harm in alleged bottle attack

R&B singer Chris Brown, 36, has been remanded in custody until June 13 by a judge in Manchester over an allegation of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

The US singer was arrested yesterday and charged with grievous bodily harm with intent over an alleged bottle attack at a London nightclub in 2023.

The charge relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square, central London, on February 19, 2023.

Brown was arrested at The Lowry Hotel in Salford, Greater Manchester, at approximately 2am on Thursday by detectives from the Metropolitan Police.

The Sun reported that the singer had flown into Manchester Airport on a private jet on Wednesday afternoon.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the arrest relates to an incident that allegedly took place at the Tape nightclub in the upmarket Mayfair area of London.

The alleged incident involves music producer Abe Diaw, who claims Brown attacked him with a bottle at the Tape nightclub.

According to reports, Diaw told The Sun that he was hospitalised after Brown beat him in what he described as an unprovoked attack.

The producer has filed a civil claim against Brown for £12 million ($16 million) in damages, alleging he suffered “severe and lasting injuries” after being beaten “over the head”.

Brown was reportedly on a worldwide tour at the time of the alleged assault in February 2023.

Adele Kelly, the Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London North, said: “We have authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Chris Brown with one count of grievous bodily harm, contrary to section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.”

She added: “The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.”

Kelly emphasised that it is “extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”

The Go Crazy singer was set to embark on a global tour next month, with several UK performances scheduled for June and July.

Brown was due to play 10 dates across the UK as part of his Breezy Bowl XX tour, including shows at Co-Op Live in Manchester on June 15 and 16, with additional dates on June 24 and July 3.

Other planned UK venues included the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Glasgow’s Hampden Park and Birmingham’s Villa Park.

Brown has a history of legal troubles, including a 2009 felony conviction for assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna before the Grammy Awards.

In 2013, he was given additional community service hours for an alleged hit and run, and was later arrested for felony assault, which was reduced to a misdemeanour.

His former manager sued him for assault in 2016, and his ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran received a five-year restraining order against him in 2017 after allegedly being threatened by the singer.
