Tom Harwood visited a butcher’s shop in Darlington where he tried his hand at meat cutting whilst discussing the challenges facing local businesses.

The butcher, who has worked at the market for 25 years, explained how increased parking charges have driven customers away from the town centre.

“It’s gone right to £1.20. It’s 70p outside there for half an hour parking. People just won’t pay the parking,” the butcher said, noting that shoppers prefer retail parks with free parking.

During the visit, Tom asked to try cutting meat himself, carefully slicing portions under the butcher’s guidance.
