GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes has opened up on the job that made him cry, as he recalled an “awful” interaction with a former boss.
Reacting to a new poll, which revealed more than half of British workers have cried at their place of work, Eamonn admitted he was once reduced to tears by his manager.
Recalling the incident, Eamonn revealed he was just 22 years old when he was called into the office by his Sports Editor.
The GB News host recounted: “I cried at work. I was 22 years of age, and my sports editor called me and he said to me, ‘what’s wrong with that script?’
“And I remember what the script was about, it was about darts. I read it and went ‘I don’t know, I don’t know’.
“And the next minute, he fired a ceramic cup bang against the wall behind me, and it smashed and I ducked.”
Revealing what happened next, Eamonn continued: “He said, ‘I’ll ask you again, what’s wrong with that?’ And I went, ‘I don’t know’, and he then lifted up a telephone which had a wire on the end of it, and he fired it, and it hit the wall behind me.
“Now I’m beginning to feel my top lip shudder, and I’m thinking, don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry here.”
As the confrontation escalated, Eamonn shocked co-host Miriam Cates as he revealed a third object that was thrown at him: “He said again, ‘what is wrong with that script?’ and I said ‘I can’t see there’s anything wrong, I can’t see anything wrong with it’.

As the GB News panel were shocked at Eamonn’s story, the Breakfast host recalled how he was “protected” by a colleague in the office, following the incident.
Eamonn said: “As I ran down to my protector in the building, a big producer, a very tall man called Rory Fitzpatrick, he said ‘young Holmes, what’s wrong with you?’ And I basically told him what happened.
“He went up into the office of where this guy was, and this guy was a very big sports guy, very big, big guy. And he punched him, which was great!”
The GB News panel began to laugh at the conclusion to Eamonn’s story, as broadcaster Clare Muldoon then asked: “What was wrong with the script?!”
Eamonn revealed: “It was about Jocky Wilson, the darts player, I have no idea what was wrong with it. To this day, I don’t know what was wrong with it.
“But I do laugh at how he got punched. He was a big guy, and this guy just punched him. Things were often resolved where I used to work with people being punched.”
Miriam then concluded: “I think HR policy has changed a little bit since then!”
