Television personality Charles Hanson has revealed plans for a new programme titled Secret Life of the Auction House, scheduled to debut later this month.
The announcement came via social media from Hansons Auctioneers, the Derbyshire-based company established by the 46-year-old in 2005.
The programme promises viewers unprecedented access to the inner workings of the auction house, where countless valuable items are processed annually.
Notable pieces mentioned include a flag from the 1966 World Cup and undergarments belonging to Queen Victoria.
This new venture marks a significant milestone for Hanson, who recently resumed his television career following a difficult period.
The auctioneer made his comeback on BBC’s Bargain Hunt in an episode earlier this year, his first screen appearance since 2023.
His absence from broadcasting lasted approximately 18 months whilst he faced legal proceedings concerning allegations of domestic violence.
A jury acquitted him of all charges related to coercive control and assault in February this year.
The antiques specialist, who has previously appeared on programmes including Flog It! and Antiques Roadshow, had maintained his innocence throughout.
His return to the popular daytime programme saw him working alongside fellow expert Christina Trevanion in Staffordshire, where he operated as auctioneer at Bishton Hall.
The new programme will offer enthusiasts and casual viewers alike an inside look at the authentication process, valuation techniques and the journey of remarkable objects through the saleroom.
According to the announcement, the series will provide practical guidance for collectors whilst documenting the discovery of exceptional items.
The format promises to capture the energy of live auctions as unique pieces find new owners amongst keen bidders.
Hansons Auctioneers processes hundreds of thousands of objects yearly at their Derbyshire premises, providing ample material for the new series.
The production will follow the complete auction process, from initial research into an item’s history through to the final strike of the gavel.
Quest TV’s commissioning of the programme represents a new broadcasting opportunity for Hanson beyond his established BBC appearances.
Supporters have responded warmly to the programme announcement, with social media users expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming series.
Comments on the auction house’s post included messages such as “Oh totally fantastic, I’m so looking forward to this” and “soooo looking forward to watching it”.
“Cannot wait,” another shared, while someone else simply posted: “Yayyy!”
“Soooo looking forward to watching it,” another added, with one more sharing: “Fablicious.” (sic)
