S Club 7 star Hannah Spearritt is believed to have quit the upcoming series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins within hours of filming commencing.
The latest series of the gruelling Channel 4 show will see Spearritt, 44, break down within just a few hours of the cameras rolling, before quitting and returning home by the end of the episode.
She was signed onto the series alongside X-Factor contestant Lucy Spraggan, 34, Strictly’s Tasha Ghouri, 26, and dancer and choreographer Louie Spence, 56.
A source told MailOnline she believed participating in the show could help turn her life around after cutting herself off from her former bandmates and the rest of the world.
“‘Hannah had pretty much exhausted all of her connections within the industry before she left for Costa Rica” the source said.
“She no longer speaks to her bandmates and has now completely shut herself off from that world. The final straw came last summer when she took part in Celebrity SAS.
“Hannah truly believed that a stint on one of the hardest and most gruelling shows could turn things around for her.
“‘But sadly she just couldn’t hack it and walked on the first day. It was all rather embarrassing.”
S Club 7 raked in a staggering £50 million in the noughties, also winning the British Breakthrough Act award at the 2000 BRIT Awards.
Don’t Stop Movin’, Reach, and Never Had a Dream Come True are just a few of the band’s songs that are still heard across the country.
Spearritt was said to be looking for a clean slate after quitting the band that made her famous in the wake of ex Paul Cattermole’s tragic death in 2023 at just 46-years-old.
The band was set to reunite on a comeback tour but after a fall out over contracts, Spearritt withdrew.
The remaining band members Rachel Stevens, Jo O’Meara, Jon Lee, Bradley McIntosh, and Tina Barrett announced that despite Spearritt’s absence, they would continue as a five-piece.
Spearritt was said to have been “blindsided” by the group’s decision to go ahead as a five, after initially reuniting as a seven for a landmark 25th anniversary tour.
She initially refused to join the other six band members blaming a lack of childcare, but later changed her mind. However, after band member Paul Cattermole died two months later, Hannah pulled out.
Hannah apologised to S Club’s fans for deciding to leave but said she had to do what was best for herself and her family.
The star fled the UK in 2024 with her daughters Taya, 5, and Tora, 4, with her partner, fitness instructor Adam Thomas, back in January for a holistic life in Costa Rica.
However, in 2023, the family had to move into an office after losing their house just before Christmas. The star insisted they weren’t paid a good wage in comparison to the millions the band was earning.
She was reportedly left “homeless” with nowhere to live after her landlord sold their rented home in London, leaving her to camp out in a friend’s office after not wanting to pay “crazy” rental prices.
The decision left them with only two days to move out and after finding a short-term rental, the landlord demanded £6,000 up front to cover costs, which Spearritt called “crazy extortionate”.
Celebrity SAS returns for its seventh season this October on Channel 4.
The eleven remaining celebrities embark on one of the toughest tests of their lives, living in military conditions, to raise money for Stand Up To Cancer.
