A major new audio adaptation of the Harry Potter novels has unveiled its voice cast, with Oscar-nominated actor Riz Ahmed taking on the role of Professor Snape.
The announcement comes as the franchise continues to expand across multiple formats.
The production, titled Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions, will feature House star Hugh Laurie voicing Albus Dumbledore and Succession’s Matthew Macfadyen as Lord Voldemort.
Doctor Who actress Michelle Gomez will portray Professor McGonagall, whilst The Good Fight’s Cush Jumbo serves as narrator.

This lavish audio series represents the first significant update to Potter audiobooks in more than two decades.
The productions will feature immersive Dolby Atmos sound, original musical scores and authentic sound effects, with more than 200 speaking parts across the seven-book series.
Hugh Laurie expressed feeling “honoured” to voice Dumbledore, acknowledging the character’s previous portrayals by Richard Harris, Michael Gambon and Jude Law.
He also referenced John Lithgow’s upcoming performance in HBO’s television adaptation, describing it as “great company” to join.
The production employs dual casting for the main trio. Frankie Treadaway, Max Lester and Arabella Stanton voice Harry, Ron and Hermione in the initial three books.
From Goblet of Fire onwards, Jaxon Knopf, Rhys Mulligan and Nina Barker-Francis assume these roles.
Notably, Stanton will portray Hermione in both this audio series and HBO’s forthcoming television adaptation.
The production team has logged over 2,000 recording hours to date, with additional casting announcements expected this autumn.
Ahmed’s casting as the complex potions master arrives amid ongoing discussions about representation in the wizarding world.
The Sound of Metal star, who earned an Academy Award nomination for his performance in the 2020 film, brings considerable dramatic weight to the role.
The British actor and rapper has built an impressive career spanning independent films like Four Lions to major franchises including Rogue One and Venom.
His involvement in prestige television productions such as The Night Of further demonstrates his range.
This casting choice offers a fresh interpretation of Snape, a character previously immortalised by Alan Rickman in the film series.
The new series adaptation sparked division with the casting of Snape, with Paapa Essiedu confirmed for the role earlier this year.

The 34-year-old actor’s casting caused some fans to blast the US production for “race-swapping” the character.
Essiedu, known for I May Destroy You and Black Mirror, recently took to Instagram in April to share a collage photo of himself and his confirmed co-stars.
“An honour and a privilege to be going on this journey with these legends,” he began. “We shall eat and we shall leave no crumbs.”
“See you at Hogwarts,” the actor concluded, signing off as: “Professor Snape x.”
