Celebrity SAS stars sparked outrage this week when four of them decided to quit just hours or even minutes in.
To add insult to injury, it’s since been revealed the celebrities who backed out will still receive the money despite pulling out of the process.
The Channel 4 army-style reality show returned to screens for its celebrity edition over the weekend.
This series saw X Factor star Lucy Spraggan, footballer Troy Deeney Former footballer Adebayo Akinfenwa, former boxer Conor Benn, dancer Louie Spence, Former Love Islander Tasha Ghouri, Traitors winner Harry Clark, S Club star Hannah Spearritt, Former glamour model and media personality Rebecca Loos, Drag Queen Bimini Bon-Boulash, former Love Islander Adam Collard, criminal-turned-author Michaella McCollum, British rapper Lady Leshurr and Love Islander Chloe Burrows singing up for the grueling challenge.
However, Spearritt, 44, quit just minutes into the first episodes, closely follower by Spence, 56.
The following episode saw Ghouri, 26 and Burrows, 29, quit on the spot during a task.
It is understood the stars will still be paid the £20,000 though, with The Sun reporting the celebs receive their payments in spite of when and how they make an exit.
They explained: “Hannah Spearitt, Chloe Burrows and Tasha Ghouri will all have been paid over £10k – some as much as £20k – but unlike other reality shows, they do get paid if they pull out.
“So even though Hannah only lasted one minute, she’ll still get paid over £10k for that minute.”
The source added that while it can be “embarrassing” for famous faces to quit early in the process, it is “well worth stars signing up even if they don’t think they can complete the show just for the payday.”
They concluded: “It might be embarrassing taking their armband off early in the show, but it’s good money!”
In a clip that aired shortly before Spearritt’s exit, she had appeared confident in her abilities.
“I am pretty determined. I wouldn’t say I give up easily but whether I get to the end or not…” Reach singer commented.
“I don’t think I’ll go on the first day because I just wouldn’t forgive myself.”
However, after becoming faint ahead of a mission, she told instructors: “Sorry – I’m done. Sorry. I’ve reached a point.”
It wasn’t long before Spence had also reached his limit, despite stating beforehand: “If there was a world war and they decided they were gonna call everyone up, would I be the first to jump up and say ‘Yes me?’
“Being surrounded my thousands of soldiers, I might just jump at it. I’d be the home guard like on Dad’s Army. We’ll have a gay Dad’s Army. Honestly, they wouldn’t want to mess with the gays!”
Despite his initial confidence though, he decided to pull out just moments later.
