Eamonn Holmes delights fans as he delivers 10-word health update on beloved pet rescue dog Maggie, 17

Eamonn Holmes has delivered a rare update about his beloved pet pooch Maggie after she recently turned an impressive 17 years of age.

The dog is no stranger to the spotlight alongside owner Eamonn, with the GB News star having provided updates and even brought her in front of the camera in years gone by.

However, as Maggie gets older, it’s only natural that fans have grown concerned and are always keen for positive updates about the adorable Border Collie.

On Sunday, Eammon was inundated with supportive messages when he shared his latest social media post alongside the canine, confirming she’s still going strong in old age.

Eamonn shared two pictures of himself with Maggie, one taken 17 years ago and the other captured recently.

In the accompanying caption, Eamonn penned: “17 years apart …… and we r both still going – JUST.” (sic)

Inevitably, it didn’t take long for Eamonn’s Instagram followers to flood the comments on the post with their well-wishes, including one who shared a series of love heart emojis with the words: “Ah, precious.”

“Wow, what a great age for the dog to be!” a second weighed in before a third echoed: “Is she 17? She’s doing so well.”

A fourth follower even claimed they crossed paths with Maggie previously. “Met Maggie in 2015 at the studio with you backstage on a celeb version of an itv gameshow that you probably won! Rescue dogs are the best. Looking well Sir!” they said.

And another simply put: “Lovely pic of you and maggie.” (sic)

Eamonn’s latest update comes just a few weeks after he gushed over the love he has for his pet during an episode of his podcast, Things We Like with Eamonn & Paul.

Alongside co-host Paul Coyte and the guest for the episode, Glenn Hoddle, the former Spurs player reflected on the bond he shares with his pet dog, who also happened to be a rescue.

“Changed my life, mate. Changed my life 17 years ago. A rescue dog changed it,” Eamonn told Hoddle, adding: “A dog wouldn’t give any other thing on earth the love that it gives you for rescuing it.”

Hoddle agreed. “Absolutely. Eamonn, we’ve only had him two months and… particularly dogs, they’re here to teach us,” he replied.

Prior to that, Eamonn hadn’t provided an update on Maggie since January.

At the start of the year, the People’s Channel star shared a heartwarming moment with his cherished rescue dog, posting footage on Instagram that showed the Border Collie displaying clear affection for him.

The 65-year-old GB News broadcaster captured himself in his vehicle whilst Maggie tenderly licked his ear from the rear seat while Eamonn sang The Beatles’ All You Need Is Love before telling viewers: “Ahhh, that dog loves me, thank you Maggie.”

Eamonn and his ex-wife, Ruth Langsford, welcomed Maggie into their household in 2011 when they adopted the Border Collie cross from Dogs Trust.

The rescue animal became an integral part of their family life, with sources describing her as being “like a daughter to them” and noting how the pair “dote on her.”

Maggie’s significance extended beyond their private life, as she made regular appearances alongside Holmes and his then-wife on ITV’s This Morning.

Eamonn has previously spoken about the profound effect Maggie had on him, revealing on GB News: “My life was changed 15 years ago when I rescued a dog. I see all animals differently now.”

Following the couple’s separation in May 2024, custody arrangements for Maggie became a central concern.

Langsford has retained primary custody of Maggie at the couple’s former shared residence in Surrey, according to The Sun.

Despite losing primary custody, Eamonn continues to have visitation opportunities with the beloved pet.
