Macy Gray ‘p****d off’ after failed Ozempic use as weight loss drug leaves star with illness

Grammy Award-winning singer Macy Gray has revealed her frustrating experience with weight loss drug Ozempic, which left her feeling ill rather than helping her shed pounds.

The 57-year-old “I Try” hitmaker expressed her annoyance after trying the popular medication that has transformed many of her friends’ bodies – however, unlike her peers who successfully lost weight, Gray suffered adverse reactions to the drug.

“I’m the only person in the world who had a bad reaction to Ozempic,” she told the I newspaper in an interview published yesterday.

The singer’s negative experience stands in stark contrast to the results she witnessed among her social circle before adding her frustration: “I’m so p****d off. All my friends are 30 pounds smaller, and I just got sick.”

Despite the setback with Ozempic, Gray remains positive about her overall well-being and added: “I’m doing well health-wise. I’m 57 and I haven’t really started to feel anything going bad.”

The weight loss medication has become increasingly popular among celebrities and the general public alike, with Gray’s experience highlighting that individual responses to such medications can vary significantly.

While many users report dramatic weight loss results with Ozempic, Gray’s body simply didn’t respond in the same way, leaving the star to open up about her financial habits, admitting she has “never been good with money”.

At one point, Gray owned five expensive cars simultaneously despite barely driving them, confessing: “I just ended up wrecking them.

“I got a bit carried away with bespoke shoes. I used to get everything custom-made, and that got really expensive.”

Her home renovations proved equally lavish yet impractical as she added: “I spent half a million dollars on landscaping. Trees and plants, basically. Was it worth it? No. They died.

“It’s something you have to learn to be good at because, honestly, anybody can make money,” she said of financial management.

The “Dutch” actress, who has three adult children with ex-husband Tracey Hinds, is currently single but still remains optimistic about romance.

“I’m not in love at the moment, but I like being in love and I’m still very excited about it,” she shared.

However, she’s reluctant to use dating apps despite their success for friends: “Three of my friends got married off of a dating app, so I’m like, ‘Maybe I should go on a date now,’ but that would be so awkward for everybody.”

Fans of the singer were delighted to learn that Gray is preparing to release her first solo album in seven years.

Her last solo release was 2018’s “Ruby”, though she did collaborate with her touring band The California Jet Club on “The Reset” in 2023.

“We’re probably going to drop a record when we’re in the UK,” Gray told The Sun.

She described the upcoming album as “raw” and “stripped down” to showcase her voice before hinting at a potential surprise appearance at this year’s Glastonbury festival.

“I would love to go out there. I love that festival. Maybe I’ll run up there,” she teased, after last performing on the Pyramid Stage in 2003.
