Michelle Keegan has found herself at the centre of controversy after posting swimsuit photographs just three months after welcoming her first child.
The actress, 37, who gave birth to daughter Palma in March, shared images on Monday modelling a brown cut-out swimsuit from her brand Orfila Bee.
The photographs sparked criticism from some followers who accused her of making other mothers feel inadequate.
“Kudos Michelle for making every young mum feel and look like s***, bravo, didn’t you do well,” one person commented.
Another added: “Nice of you to make other Mums grumpy after birth.”
“Just a message to any mum out there’s who’s just had a baby and your body didn’t snatch back like this, remember you just grown a baby for 9months don’t matter what ya look like you made a baby, mad in it enjoy,” a third commented.
The backlash came as Michelle and husband Mark Wright, 38, have been sharing updates from their family holiday in Spain with their newborn daughter.
However, Michelle’s supporters quickly came to her defence against the negative comments. “Really? Comment not needed,” one fan responded with an eye-roll emoji.
Another supporter wrote: “You look amazing as always enjoy your time with your gorgeous baby girl and ignore all the haters and negativity.”
One follower argued that Michelle wasn’t promoting unrealistic standards, stating: “Michelle looks amazing.
“So unfair on these comments. It takes time to feel okay mentally regardless of physical looks.
“So what if she has snapped back, she may not feel that way. She is not promoting ‘snap back after having a baby’ she is making a living.”
Others questioned why she was receiving such criticism, with one writing: “So if she hadn’t ‘snapped back’ she’d be ok to post? But because she has she’s being told she shouldn’t post? Unreal. You look amazing.”
Defenders pointed out the double standards Michelle faced. “All the pressure over the years of ‘when are you and Mark having a baby’ they did it in their own time, and now she is getting slated for looking so good after having a baby!!! People need to have a day off!!!” one supporter commented.
Another fan emphasised that bodies recover differently after childbirth. “Some women do go back to their body normal after childbirth, some women don’t,” they wrote, adding that this didn’t justify shaming someone for wearing a swimming costume.
The controversy surrounding Michelle’s posts comes amid ongoing pressures faced by new mothers on social media.
“I don’t have children, or a figure like Michelle’s, but I follow her because I like her, and her posts, I imagined everyone else following did too, but there’s a lot of nasty comments about her because she looks amazing, that’s just not nice,” one supporter observed.
Many fans urged the actress to disregard the criticism and continue sharing her journey as a new mother.
